The new 2016 navigation update now features a total of 15 Latin American countries/Caribbean islands, with major and minor roads, towns, villages and plenty of points of interest: Argentina, Brazil, Cayman Islands, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, St. Barthélemy, Uruguay and Venezuela.

The navigation data on the 2016 version covers over 3 million kilometres of road.

The 2016 version features 114 towns and communities.

Almost 798,000 key points of interest are featured on the USB flash drive, including filling stations, car parks, museums, restaurants and hospitals. There are around 88,268 more POIs here than on the previous version. If required, the navigation system will also show the user the quickest route to 125 Mercedes-Benz service outlets.
Some 14,648 restaurants and 1600 hotels have been added to the new 2016 version.

Map updates include millions of changes, e.g. new roads, crossroads, bypasses, junctions and motorway slip roads and exits. One section of road may feature up to 260 attributes, such as the number of lanes or one-way routing. All of these attributes and the vast number of points of interest have to be updated constantly. In this new version, for example, over 4476 roundabouts, 22,434 turning restrictions, 12,582 one-way streets and 88,058 street names have been updated. In addition, over 511,874 kilometres of road have been updated, including approx. 5948 sections of motorway and dual carriageway.

This navigation update for NTG5 Star1 is copy-protected for COMAND Online. To import up-to-date map data, a six-digit activation code is required in addition to the USB flash drive. Each activation code represents a licence to use the map data in a single vehicle and is exclusively valid for a specific combination of vehicle, COMAND Online and map version. Navigation updates can be purchased via the same channels as to date; the required vehicle-specific activation codes are available via the VeDoc system. The newly acquired licence is documented in VeDoc at the time of purchase. A charge is made for the activation code, but it can be re-requested free of charge in VeDoc in the event of a replacement. Details of how to import up-to-date map data and input the activation code can be found in the COMAND Online operating instructions. Ordering an activation code requires access to VeDoc and specific user permissions. Access to VeDoc is free of charge. Permissions are assigned by the VeDoc hotline.
