A new chapter in the history of the G-Class began in September 1989 with the presentation of a fundamentally revamped model range – known internally as model series 463.
The facelift measures focused on meeting a growing customer demand for more comfort and on making the transition from sober utility vehicle to comfortable MPV. The interior of the new model generation bore a closer resemblance to the other models in the car range, and this impression was reinforced by subtle stylistic changes to the front end, which was painted in body colour.
