A completely revised mid-range model series was presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in March 1987. The main focus of the facelift was the restyling of the body and the new-look interior.
The most distinctive feature of the facelifted models was the protective side strips with integral side skirt panels.
This effect was reinforced by chromed trim elements on the door handles and modified wheel trim with a chromed Mercedes star logo and a narrow trim ring around the circumference.
Other changes included painting the exterior mirror housings in the body colour. The interior also had a new design, with improved front and rear seats and numerous detailed enhancements.
